Dell Optiplex 7050 Micro

Hello VMware family. I am at a loss. I am new to the whole hypervisor and virtualization world but been in IT about 10 years. I'm pretty good at troubleshooting. So recently I reimaged a Dell OptiPlex 7050 (32GBs of RAM and SSD 500GB with i7 processor). I thought this machine would be perfect to install the latest Image of Esxi. Now I configured the machine initially best I can. What's weird is that when I connect it to my home network via ethernet cable its not receiving an IP address. Even when I set it to Dynamically obtain an address it gets the dreaded 169.x.x.x internal address. So then I tried statically setting an address with all the right information but its not pingable nor can it ping out. I don't get it? I test the cable with a laptop and it gets an IP address ruling out the wireless router and cable might be bad. For me its either the actual NIC card or is it maybe I have to load the NIC card drivers? not sure... Can anyone help me in the right direction? I'm going to see if I buy a USB NIC card tomorrow to try and rule that out. Any guess?
