Different vCenter edditions in SRM environment

Hello All,

can I use different vCenter editions in SRM environment, SRM version will be 8.1 for both sites, and I will use vCenter 6.5 standard at the protected site and vCenter 6.5 foundation at the recovery, is this scenario possible??

Thanks in Advance,

Hi Aws

Yes, it is supported (vCenter Standard at the protected site and vCenter Foundation at the recovery), but taking into account all the limitations you will have of vCenter Foundation vs vCenter Standard (like up to 4 vSphere hosts on vCenter Foundation, no Linked mode support etc.)

Best Regards

Ivan

Based on the below table, it looks like vCenter Foundation is not supported with SRM 8.1. However, I'm not sure about it. Would love to know from someone who might be using it in this combination -

Hi Aws, Supreet

The table above regarding vSphere Editions is correct - SRM 8.1 supports vSphere Standard, vSphere Enterprise, vSphere Enterprise Plus and vSphere Essentials Plus - see Compatibility Matrices for VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.1 .

I believe the question is about vCenter Server editions - SRM 8.1 supports vCenter Server for Essentials, vCenter Server Foundation and vCenter Server Standard - see Requirements and Compatibility at StorageHub.

Hope this helps

Hi All,

thanks for the help so far, please note that we know the SRM 8.1 supports the vCenter foundation, the question is can we run an SRM environment with different vCenter editions (standard at the protected site and Foundation at the recovery)?

Thanks in advance
