NIC card not recognized after server auto restarts

Hello All,

I am currently running VMware vSphere version 6.5.0.13000 and I am running into a rather odd issue. We set up servers in our environment to automatically update/restart. Sporadically after these restarts I will get a server that will not ping. When I check the server and the IP address is 169.254.0.0/24 address indicating that it is not picking up the network. The nic card displays the warning sign that network is not available. However, the nic card is not down or off. To fix this I disconnect and reconnect the nic card and the nic card immediate recognized the network and connects.

Originally, I thought it might have to do with the VMware tools not being up to date, but this issue happens regardless if the tools are updated or not.

Has anyone experienced this kind of issue? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If your guest OS is windows servers, see whether you have hidden network adapters in device manager, uninstall them if they exist.  Follow these steps

1. Open command prompt

2. Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and then press ENTER.

3. Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC, and then press ENTER.

4. Click View, and then click Show Hidden Devices.

5. Expand the Network Adapters tree.

6. Right-click the dimmed network adapter, and then click Uninstall.

Thanks
