Snapshot Location

Hello,

I have VM that have three virtual disks attached to it an wanted to take snap of the VM prior to some windows OS upgrades.

one disk is on 1st LUN and two other disks are on 2nd LUN. These LUNs are in different sizes and both can accommodate snapshot creation.

When I create snap of the VM where actually that snap will "live" LUN1 or LUN2?

how can I quickly find that out?

Thanks a bunch

If you've made no changes to ESXi's configuration, the snapshots are placed where the parent virtual disks are located. So disk0 will have its snapshot placed on LUN1 and disks1 and 2 will be on LUN2.

Well... someone will argument that "no changes" means something different Smiley Wink

The above is 100% correct when speaking of a single Datastore

- All Snaps goes into the $Home Folder of the VM

If you create a Dastore Cluster, which is a inbuild feature (depends on the edition/licensing), the behaviour will be different

- The snaps will be located in the same LUN/Datastore as the *.vmdk

Last and least there is the "change":

- There is a Adv. VM Setting with that you can specify a folder location and all Snaps of a VM goes into that folder (Dont use it.... its a non standard and hard to remember)
