vcenter migration step by step question

i migrated vcenter and esxi from 5.5 to 6.5 now . my plan is vmtools, hardware and vmfs . i have a question about migration . now first i must upgrade vmtools then hardware version or the exact opposite ( with snapshot or backup ). and my another question is about vmfs update.  i have ms cluster in vcenter infrastructure how i can upgrade this datastore. so i dont know ms cluster virtual hard disk model ? I do not know how the MS cluster was made because I was not the one who built it. I don't know if this infrastructure supports vMotion. I could not understand if I could do without shutdown the ms cluster virtual servers.

You upgrade VMware Tools first, then hardware second. As for VMFS update, if you're going to VMFS-6, there is no upgrade path from prior versions. You must create new VMFS-6 datastores and perform migrations of your VMs to VMFS-6.

Hello,

Yes you have to upgrade the vmware tools for all VMs. Then you upgrade the hardware version (here be careful, before any hardware version upgrade backup and validate this backup).

Regarding VMFS version upgrade, the only way is to create new LUNs/Volumes/Datastores with new VMFS version. So that should be applied to all MS cluster datastores.
