I have an ESXi 6.5 and installed the vmware remote console which I downloaded using the link in the vmware ESXi browser console.
My system is US English windows 7 enterprise but I am located in Germany.
Thus the regional settings of my machine are German currency, date and so on but I do not want any German GUI.
For some reason the VMRC GUI shows all menu items in German and I cannot find a way to change this.
Is there a way to adapt the interface language of the vmrc to English?
Hi PhilBB ,
You can add the following entry into "%APPDATA%\VMware\preferences.ini" file:
pref.locale = "en_US"
And see if the program locale turns to English.
What is the inputs language on your machine ? also could you post a screen shot of this console .
The default URL for the vSphere Web Client is –
https://<hostname:IP Address:9443/vsphere-client/
and to add a language simply append the following –
Windows VMRC detects and matches the OS display language for the 11 non-English languages its supports.

my OS is w7 x64 US English, my keyboard is US English and my default language is US English too.
I have of course added German as a second language and my regional settings for date, time and currency are German too.
Automatic language detectin is just crap.
Thanks a lot, this did the trick.
At least the GUI is English now although an update which I installed today (AFTER I had changed the preferences.ini) still showed all the installation dialogues in German.
For installer, the only way we can toggle the language to English is run the installer .exe file manually from command line like this (I'm taking the recently released 10.0.3 as example):
VMware-VMRC-10.0.3-9300449.exe /v"ProductLanguage=1033"
With the latest update I uninstalled the previous version completely and installed the new version with
VMware-VMRC-10.0.3-9300449.exe /v"ProductLanguage=1033"
The installer came up in English but the GUI is still in German.
Who the heck programs things like that?
Aren't the users of VMRC at least so sophisticated that they cannot be asked which language they want?
Thanks to your answer I can change the language to english.
