vCD 9.1 - Repeated characters in HTML5 console

Is anyone else facing repeated characters when using vCloud Director tenant or FLEX portal? Article VMware Knowledge Base does not help. Also we have 4ms latency to the datacentre so it should not affect.

Which build do you have? And which browser is affected?

Some weeks ago there was an update that fixes such an error in Firefox:

In a virtual machine web console that is opened in Mozilla Firefox, a single keystroke types a character multiple times.

When you open a web console of a virtual machine in Mozilla Firefox and start typing, the console interprets single keystrokes incorrectly and prints a single character multiple times.

Build is specified as 9.1.0.8825784 in About window but I made sure I've downloaded 9.1.0.1 which should be 9.1.0-8825802 by the filename.

After trying different combinations I came to conclusion that it affects only Firefox in Tenant portal. Firefox works well in Flash version of HTML5 console. Maybe fix hasn't been applied everywhere 😕

If you are now using 9.1.0.8825784, you have a version below build 8825802, which means that the fix has not yet been applied to your vCD instance.

You can download the latest version which includes the fix here: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VSPP_VCD9101&productId=727&rPId=24311

Please check the build number at the end of the filename. It should be: vmware-vcloud-director-distribution-9.1.0-8825802.bin

Just checked our installation that we updated 10 days ago with an installer downloaded that day.

Installer filename was vmware-vcloud-director-distribution-9.1.0-8825802.bin yet the UI build number reports 9.1.0-8825784 (built 06/14/2018).

Have VMware forgotten to bump the build number in the UI or have they accidentally packaged an older build in a new .bin file?

I'm not sure why a different build number is displayed under About. But you can check if the latest version is installed by checking the Java version. In this update, the Java version is upgraded to "1.8.0_171".

[root@vcd01-pub ~]# /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/jre/bin/java -version

java version "1.8.0_171"

I get java version "1.8.0_171"

Have logged a support call with VMware.  Their engineer has confirmed the issue is reproducible and has escalated it.

We've got the same issue, only exists on systems running Windows, macOS machines seem a lot better.

Good to know that the bug still exists and VMware is already informed. Thanks for the feedback.

But it's very interesting. Since upgrading to the latest version, our customers have stopped complaining about this problem. And we mainly work with MacOS and Linux and Chrome. So, the problem seems to be triggered only under certain conditions.

We have experienced this issue only in Firefox browser when accessing tenant (HTML5) portal. Other browsers we tested (Edge, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome) worked well.

Firefox version: 62.0

OS: Windows 10
