Do you by any chance have an old version of converter installed already? Please uninstall old versions and re-try if applicable.

I've encountered the same issue here with one of our old Server 2003 x86 servers. (Don't ask, I'm stuck keeping it alive for who knows how long)

As noted above, Converter has never been installed on this system.

Attempts to install agent only also fail when trying to start the converter services.

I've tried install vccRedist and that hasn't help.

Manually registering the dll fails with initialization routine failed.

Systems been restarted several times, it's fully patched, hasn't had anything installed in years.

Currently system is only running 2 instances of SQL 2000 (again, don't ask....), and BackupExec 10d.

Looking for any thoughts/ideas since I'm fresh out.

300+ VMs converted with only minor issues, this one has me stumped though.

Thanks

Try to run vmware-converter.exe as application in command prompt - should report much better error.

I can't even get converter installed so I won't really be able to do that.

That's a different story.

If installation fails - look at %temp%\vm*.log files for fail reason.

Log doesn't reveal much either aside from service installed and then rolling back

As mentioned before, windows event log shows the services as failing to start due to msvcr90.dll

As noted above, this has been done already and the result is the same.

Very strange situation... Converter and installation are packaged with all required files within.

There are couple msvcrt90 versions (3+)... Converter is build and looking for 9.0.30729.4148 try to find and install exact version
