Hi All,
We use HP BL460 blades running ESXi 6.5 using the HP Image. We noticed that from vcenter, all the serial numbers displayed under the Monitor > Hardware Status tab is that of the Enclosure rather than that of the Blade. Connecting directly to the Web interface of ESXi host and shows the same result. Even RVTools shows the Serial number of the Enclosure and not the Blade.
Using powerCLI and running $esxcli.hardware.platform.get.Invoke() on the ESXi host will show the correct Serial Number of the blade....
Is this a bug?
Thanks.
I've got the exact same issue and VMware Support informed that this is a known issue and the fix will be included in next release of 6.5.

Hello
Same here on VMware ESXi 6.7 latest version (VMware ESXi 6.7.0 build-9214924).
I've also opened a Service Request, waiting for their feedback and solution.
I've also noticed that if you type this command
esxcfg-info | grep "Serial N"
You'll see both serial numbers (blade & blade enclosure serial) (in previous ESXi versions (5.5), we would only get the blade serial number , not the blade enclosure))
Unfortunately, the wrong one is retrieved in the GUI .. (Blade Enclosure Serial Number instead of Blade Serial Number)
Does anyone have a defect number for this problem?
What defect number are you looking for ?
regards
Gayathri

Hello,
I'd like to know if the patch has been made available for resolving this defect. Are there any updates to share? Thank you.
I just applied the latest VCSA patch and ESXi patches and seems to be resolved now.
Dear Gents,
I am also facing the same issues. please let me know any KBs available for the same.
I'm in the same boat as a few others in this thread. Is there a defect number for this issue, so I can track the resolution?
Is this bug fixed yet? Does anyone know?
We are seeing the same issue with ESXi 6.7 Update 3g. Is this still a known issue and is there a release that resolved it?
It is already 5 years from the issue appeared and not fixed...
Update:
Esxi on Synergy 480 Gen 10 Plus gets data from Server Profile a.k.a. "Serial Number (Logical)" not from Server Hardware in OneView. VMware vCenter 7.0.3
