vcenter HA 6.5 - names

is it correct that - In order to configure vcenter HA should i keep different vcenter hostname (OS) names  from their inventory names?

in guides i find - HA handles itself all the cloning process. So i think it does not matter that if i keep hostname and inventory names same of vcenter.

should i keep my vcenter hostname different from inventory names in vcenter inventory or it does not matter -

any idea and any guide you can point me.

In general, leave guest os hostname on HA itself.. only give different VM name for witness and peer node

daphnissov has already shared the link to the extensive information about vCHA. Just to answer your question, the names will be allocated automatically when the vCHA basic configuration is selected. You can manually name the other nodes while selecting the advanced configuration.

When you configure vCenter HA, this task would clone the vCenter host with same hostname as a peer n witness node. However you have to specify different vmname for both nodes while configuration so it doesn't conflict in inventory. For ex, I have created basic HA with following names..

VM Name = edvcsa01

Guest OS Name = edvcsa01

VM Name = edvcsa01-peer

Guest OS Name = edvcsa01

VM Name = edvcsa01-witness

Guest OS Name = edvcsa01

Is there any functional requirements to have different OS names from their inventory names?

As i can see in documentation  " The system clones the Active node and creates a Passive node with precisely the same settings including the same host name. " so vcha wll have no problem because it will create by itself.

On other side we know that vcenter cant keep two same names so you kept different inventory names for your own ease but there is no functional requirement from vcha? we can have same inventory names as OS names.

Not different OS names, OS hostname will be remained same on all 3 nodes, it’s VM names different in inventory because you can’t create duplicate VM with same vm name.
