No Parent VMs listed when creating desktop pool

Attempting to create new pool in View5.  I have 2 snapshots of my Win7 VM. Snapshots show up in snapshot manager.  This is a simple PoC deploy on and island network without Security and Transfer servers. Sql and odbc connection config operational. Any suggestions??  Thanks.

When selecting Parent VM, check off "Show incompatible parent VMs".

The vm should show up with a little clickable icon to the right of the name. Click the icon and should be a reason why it can't be used.

Yes, I tried selecting "Show incompatible templates" and still nothing.  I am now working on a Transfer server that might be my problem.  I am assuming i still do not need a Security server because I will be testing everything internally.

Did you inadvertently leave the Full Machines radio button selected instead of changing the option to View Composer linked clones when defining the properties of the pool? I can see myself glossing over that, so I can see how it could happen. If that were the case though, it would be asking you for a template to use, not a master image. Just a thought. I admit it's a long shot.

No, I selected linked clones.  Is my build wrong?  I have a vCenterSvr and ConectionSvr setup. No SecuritySvr or XferSvr.

Just to get the linked clone pool created, you don't need a transfer or security server. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the account used to link View with vCenter doesn't have sufficient rights in vCenter to see the parent VM? Did you use a service account created specifically for that link between View and vCenter, or are you using an existing domain account? There are really good guidelines for creating accounts for vCenter and AD in the Administration guide, within the first 15 pages. If that's not it, I'm running out of ideas. Very strange.

Well, I didnt create any service accounts, I have a domain admin account that I've given permissions to all the server components.  The only service acount that i made was in sql to service the odbc connection and thats working.  I notice my Orchestrator Service wasnt running, so I started it. Also the Sql server agent for the viewcomposer was disabled.  Does that need to be running?  The SQL Server service is runinng. Any ports i need to look at possibly?

Were you able to get an answer for this issue?  I am having the same problem.

I redid the entire thing from start and still unable to get a Proof of Concept deployment going.  So , I  tried Citrix took me 2 days to get XenDesktop running.  If you are trying to get PoC you'll find Citrix is a whole lot easier to work with and has more features.  I know the people here might not like me saying that but, my research and many  experts agree.  VMware is still dominant for server virtualization to me.  Good luck.

That is a shame because I always felt that one of the advantageous of View was it's simplicity.   I don't think anyone here will begrudge you for sharing your opinion but I do encourage you to share those thoughts with VMware.   I would think that they would love to know what issues you had in setting up your POC.

I ran into this same issue with my View 5 implementation.  What I found in my situation is that the View Administrator could not see my snapshots when the parent VMs were a part of a vApp.  I moved the parent VM into a resource pool instead and voila, could see the snapshot in View Administrator.  I hope this helps someone!

One thing to note as well: If you're wanting to utilize Linked Clones you need to make sure that View Composer is installed.  Have you verified that it is installed and operating correctly?  As for ease of setup and operation? I had a PoC setup in a small lab environment in about 4 hours with View 4.0.  The "Architecture and Planning Guide" helped me get off the ground without a hitch.

An old thread but one i turned up when having a similar problem (7.3.1 Horizon View on 6.5 U2 vCentre), thought i'd share our solution in case it helps anyone. The problem was indeed permissions as the issue suggests, we'd applied the correct permissions (FYI a better list that the one provided by VMware KB's is here - https://thevirtualhorizon.com/2016/08/08/horizon-7-0-part-6-service-accounts-and-databases/ ) but at the wrong level, it does specify in the documentation but i'd misread. Ensure the permissions are applied at the vCentre level, not the cluster or datacentre level, then provided all is well, you should see your template
