Snapshot - VM with the vCenter Server service

Goodnight,

Perform a snapshot to my VM, which has installed the vCenter Server service and all the Vmware services, is it recommended to run a snapshot to the server that has all the vCenter services installed?

And then when removing the snapshot, the vm could be affected or with garbage?

Is it recommended to run a snapshot on a server with vcenter server installed?

Regards...

You can treat the vCenter Server VM like any other VM. Creating, and deleting snapshots should not cause any issues.

Yes, Snapshoting of vCenter VMs is supported and recommended in some scenarios. For example, before you start a vCenter upgrade.

But there are a few things you should know:

- Snapshots should be a temporary solution. It does not replace backups and if there is a major infrastructure problem (especially with storage), snapshots can be broken. Therefore, you should not rely on this function for long.

- Deleting snapshots affects performance. This is all the more true the longer the snapshot was active. If the datastore containing your vCenter VM is running at its IO limits, you may not be able to delete it.

- When you return to an earlier state, all changes to your dvSwitch and at cluster level are gone. This also applies to profiles and some other things.

Adding to what all others have shared, it is important to take a snapshot of the vCenter and the PSC (SSO) in powered off state when they are replicating with a second site. Have seen replication agreements in broken state when the PSC's have been reverted to the previous state and that snapshot was taken while the PSC VM was running.
