Dear All,
I am experiencing a problem with CD rom in my virtual machines, attaching screen shot. If I reboot machine, CD rom comes back but later on its own may be in a week or less than a week it will again disappear.
from almost a month I am trying to troubleshoot but no luck, any one experienced similar please share resolution for this. If require additional details, let me know. Please note already I checked this problem is not related to VMware tools.
regards,
Around the same timestamp, are you seeing any errors on the Windows application logs in the event viewer? Have you installed any image burner softwares on the VM? If yes, uninstall them and monitor the system.
Cheers,
Supreet
Hello,
Is this VM with updated vmware tool ?
Please attach the vmx-file of this VM to your next reply.
Is the virtual CD / DVD supposed to act as a DVD-writer ?
I have a hunch that you use try to connect to a bad port ....
Looks like you are trying IDE ?
Anyway - post the vmx-file.
Can I get vmx from datastore without shutdown of vm?
That should work with WinSCP or similar tools - may fail with Datastorebrowser.
If you cant download the file - then get the newest "vmware.log" - it also has the info I look for.
Hello,
How I send you the vmx file? I don't see a choice here to attach a file, only insert. I downloaded vmx for one of the machine where I have problem.
While in second machine where I also face problem, when browsing datastore I see its vmx file as in photo not like regular with blue color icon, any idea why like that, because I am unable to download this vmx.
Please let me know how to share with you other vmx file.
regards,
Go to the normal forum view - not the one you get when you look at your notifications.
You should see a button labelled "attach" on the right part of the screen.
In this vmx-file I find nothing conclusive.
I would suggest to uninstall the CD-rom:
- inside the VM use devicemanager to uninstall the CD-rom
- power off the VM
- remove the CD-rom device from the VM-settings
- boot VM once and make sure there is no CD-rom device listed
- power off VM again
- re-add a CDrom and make sure to assign a SCSI-CD-rom
- boot VM and check if the new device appears in devicemanager
> when browsing datastore I see its vmx file as in photo not like regular with blue color icon,
This typically means that the listed file is not a valid vmx-file.
To be invalid a small syntax error may be sufficient - but it can also mean that the file is completely corrupted.
In such a case try to download via WinSCP
Hello,
thank you for response, so currently cd rom is as ide1:0.device Type device and you want me to add it as a SCSI cd rom, is it recommended or you have some reason for suggesting this?
> is it recommended or you have some reason for suggesting this?
It is just a hunch. I believe that something inside your VM does not like the way you assigned the IDE-ports.
Assigning the CDrom as a SCSI-device will work around any issues related to IDE.
