Share VM across two Macs

I’m currently using Fusion on my iMac in the studio on my home network. I’d like to be able to access the VMs I have set up on there on my MacBook as well. At the moment I’m just copying the VMs between the two machines (pain).

What’s the best way to do this? I’ve considered saving the VMs on a NAS and access them via Fusion on each Mac, but not sure if that would work?

What are your setups, in this respect?

OK, in that case you can use the built in VNC server that comes with Fusion.

On the VM, select settings, go to Advanced ->

Enable "Remote Display over VNC"

That's VNC at Fusion level, so the guest is not involved with that.

edit: FWIW, yes you can setup a VM on your NAS and access it directly from both Fusion machines, but:

- it will likely be pretty slow

- if you try to run from both machines at the same time, some corruption might be coming your way.

Hi,

Not sure if it is a viable solution for your use case, but for my guests I tend to use the in guest remote capabilities.

Eg. for Windows guests I use remote desktop, for macOS I use Screen Sharing, for Linux/xBSD I use ssh Smiley Happy

Hi Wil

Thanks for the suggestion. I’d prefer to be able to keep the host as detached as possible as I’ll be doing malware reversal work and forensics but it’s an option and worth considering in some circumstance.

Thanks

Steve

And one other add - if there's a network hiccup, corruption is in the cards too.  Running via NAS highly not recommended.

That sounds like a good option. I'll give that a try.

Thanks for the advice.
