What is typical network trffic between vSphere and ESXi hosts?

We have multiple ROBO sites with a central vCenter server. My network team is telling me that they are seeing what they would consider excessive traffic between the vCenter server and the ESXi hosts. They are seeing about a GB per day between each ESXi host and the vCenter server.

The application they are seeing is WBEM CIM-XML (HTTPS) and running on port 5989. I understand that that is hardware monitoring, but I would agree that a GB a day is somewhat excessive.

Could someone help me understand the traffic so I can explain it to my network team, or do we have a configuration issue.

We are running 6.0

Thanks,

Larry

Check duplex setting end to end ( host to out side network)

If it is on specific time use esxtop check which daemon is generating high traffic.

Thanks for the reply,

It is not at a specific time. All nics are set to auto negotiate. How would this cause high network traffic?

What kind of Hardware Monitoring Software you are using ? Check the time interval and frequency or Hardware/ Software polling scheduled on the Monitoring software. At times if you have the time set to perform the Polling is very frequently then it could be the reason you are seeing lot of traffic . You can change the interval of polling on the Monitoring Software and keep it under observation.
