VMWARE virtual machine won't boot up in windows 10

Hi,

I have Windows 10 with the latest updates 1803 on my computer.  I have installed VMWARE Workstation to run some virtual test machines Windows Server 2016, 2012 r2 for which I have the evaluation version ISO's.

Now when I try to power ON the machines, it gives me an error "VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details".

I have tried every possible way posted in the tutorial  from VMware and Windows.  But, unfortunately my problem remains the same.

I tried to use cmd elevated command line bcdedit as well but even after the restart my  computer does not ask me for disable device guard/ credentials guard.

Is there anyone who can help me solve this issue.

Let me tell you that prior to this I had Windows 7 on the same machine running VMWARE Workstation 12.  I never had any problem.

I have a DELL Precision 6600 32Gig 1TB SSD with Intel(R) Core i7-2720QM 2.20GHz, X64 Processor.

Please help.

Thank you.

A Khan

For a start check the Device Security settings in Windows Defender Security Centre:

  1. Open Windows Defender Security Centre
  2. Click Device security
  3. Ensure any options listed here are disabled (What options are available is hardware dependent.)*

Next check that Hyper-V is not installed:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click Apps
  3. Click Programs and Features
  4. Click Turn Windows features on or off
  5. Ensure Hyper-V in unchecked

* At present I am only running Windows 10 1803 as virtual machines or on hardware too old to support this feature so have nothing listed there. Consequently I've had no problems with Device/Credential Guard.
