system logs

Gents,

I have almost completed configuration of my 1st vSAN ROBO, the last step is to configure log folders for each esxi hosts. There is no issue to put path for the 1st host in syslog.globallogDir as per link

but for 2nd host I receive error "A specified parameter was not correct changedValue.value.

the path to folders is:

[vsanDatastore] Logs/ESX01

[vsanDatastore] Logs/ESX02

could you please advise what is wrong?

Hello AJiyenbayev,

It is unsupported to configure logging on vsandatastore, this can cause serious issues:

"vSAN does not support having scratch log on the vSAN Datastore. For more information,"

Hello AJiyenbayev,

As per the kb article I linked, this has the potential to cause actual issues (generally as a result of being synergistic/compounding another issue) so under no circumstances should you be setting this in anything other than a lab - sort out a correct logging location, there are plenty of options.

Anyway, you likely have a syntax error with where you are trying to point the logs - did you ensure that you created the directories that you are trying to direct the logs to?

Create the namespace Object (via SSH on any host):

# /usr/lib/vmware/osfs/bin/osfs-mkdir /vmfs/volumes/vsanDatastore/UnSupportedLogs

# cd /vmfs/volumes/vsanDatastore/UnSupportedLogs

# mkdir UnSupportedESX01

# mkdir UnSupportedESX02

Set Syslog.global.logDir to:

Host1:

[vsanDatastore] UnSupportedLogs/UnSupportedESX01

Host2:

[vsanDatastore] UnSupportedLogs/UnSupportedESX02
