why don't we see any details about standard switch in vROPS?

I can see monitoring details for DV Switch in vROps networking view, I can see vmnic's under all metrics of server. Then why not standard switches?

A vmnic is a physical entity. A vSS doesn't expose all the necessary points to monitor like a vDS does. Gotta remember license levels here and the greater feature sets available with vDS far outweigh vSS. A standard switch just isn't something vROps can look at.

Because a vSS is not a collectible object like a vDS is. vSS is a host-level item while vDS is a vCenter-level item.

I do get that point however, I am collecting for other objects like VMNIC's which are connected to standard switch. So then why not standard switch only. Even if we have to access this info per server in vrops like we do in vSphere client.

Thanks for reply. It is helpful point. However still need more clarity on this. We have integration with whole vSphere infra through vCenter. If vCenter can show port groups of standard switches across servers under networking in web client, then at least I should get that kind of info in vRops also.

Feel free to open a SR to an official answer from VMware as to why.

Also if we can't monitor vSS, at least I should get info in vROps portal that some ESXi servers have standard switches.
