Fusion Pro 10.1.1 graphics perf ???

Hello,

just re-ran the W7 perf index in a VM that was copied from a 4.5 years old MBP 15" to the latest MBP 15" (3.1Ghz, Radeon 560 4GB), and guess what....  ZERO (positive) changes !!!!!! Graphics index dropped from 6.5 to 6.0...

While I'm still pretty happy with the old MBP, it seems almost unbelievable that the perf hasn't improved a bit (or worse, that it declined...), especially at the graphics level...

I did setup the Mac to use ONLY the discrete graphics card. Latest VMWare tools installed, of course...

Any ideas/hints ???

A couple of things:

Make sure that the VM Hardware Compatibility is set to version 14. Version 12 is the minimum to get DX10/OpenGL 3.3 core profile capabilities in the Windows 7 VM.

Fusion 10.x by default uses Metal instead of OpenGL graphics framework to deliver VM accelerated 3D graphics capabilities. You could try switch off Metal and switch back to OpenGL by adding the following lines to the vmx configuration file.

mks.enableMTLRenderer = "FALSE"

mks.enableGLRenderer = "TRUE"

Part of it is that Apple uses middling (at best) discrete graphics chips in their machines.

It would be great if you measure the graphics performance by using some professional benchmarks like 3D Mark, Unigine Heaven rather than WEI, and report the performance drop if you still see it.

Thanks,
