new user license mistake in vcenter

I am using a VMUG provided license which I use to learn about ESXi and vSphere in a homelab setting but made a mistake which I cant figure out how to undo.

I applied my licence to vCenter (vcenter.local.home) and a single ESXi host. Did a bunch of stuff but ultimately broke the Vcenter VM. I created a new one (vcenter2.local.home) and now cant re-apply my licence to it as it suspects its already in use on another vcenter. I dont have access to that original vcenter anymore. Any pointers would be very much appreciated how to reset licensing or recover the key.

Is this a completely new installation, i.e. no reinstall on the same Windows system, or an installation with an existing external database?

In case of a fresh setup, I've never seen such an issue, except for incorrect license keys, or some preceeding/trailing hiden characters.

ESXi hosts do not store vCenter licenses. The new vCenter simply has nowhere to learn that its license has already been used. In addition, if the vCenter fails and can not be recovered, then the new instance is deployed. With the same license. No poblem.
