Hi Bro.

Vmware does not supports HP G7 Generation. But there is a way. You have to use Image Customizer tool and insert the CPU drivers of G7 servers in it and wolaa

let me know how it went.

best Regards

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to give a modern update to this issue.

HP has never fixed this.  I'm updating our G7's to 6.5 U2 (VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-9298722-HPE-preGen9-650.U2.9.6.8.3-Sep2018.iso).  This is the last 6.5 update for Pre-Gen9 servers.  The purpose for updating these servers is to be able to add my older servers to my vSphere Server 7 to facilitate migrating to a new SAN.

My fix was the post by @Janers which simply edited the boot.cfg to not load the offending drive.  The server came right back up after that.  As a backup, I was prepared with a modified custom image that loaded the old driver from 6.0 and I was prepared to do a clean install with that custom image (instructions here:  HPE Proliant G7 Servers and vSphere 6.5 Purple Screen of Death | virtual.mvp (virtualmvp.com).

I will be using that custom image moving forward on my G7 updates so that I don't have this problem again.

Thanks to everyone in this thread.  I'm no VMWare expert and it gave me a lot of comfort knowing that I didn't blow my server up.
