VMDK

So I accidentally trashed my vmdk file. I was able to recover it using a data recovery tool, but now I'm not having any luck with the command -->  vmware-vdiskmanager -R Server.vmdk

I keep getting a message file is corrupted and cannot be repaired. The interesting thing though is that the log files are all different sizes and have different content. Does that mean that its repairing the file in small segments? Some logs are 3-100+MB

The log file has:

-lots of entries with Invalid GD or RGD [123213] : 2132141561,123213 vs 123213,343433

-lots of entries with Grain #numbers @morenumbers is pointed to by multiple GTEs

-ends each time with <<< file Throttled >>>

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I saw some posts by continuum but wasn't able to follow exactly. Thanks in advance

The option -R of vmware-vdiskmanager of the recent Workstation versions is a bluff.
You may need to run it many times - and even then it typically is useless.
Last known working versions came with Workstation 7.
Try to convert the VMDK with Starwinds V2V-converter.
Which recoverytool did you use ?
If it is UFSexplorer then use UFSexplorer to mount the vmdk - with a bit of luck you can use it to extract the data.

That is normal - I have seen log-files grow to GBs before vmware-vdiskmanager -R crashes next time.

The vmdk file was on OSX so I used EaseUS data recover to get the vmdk file back, and on Windows I've tried DiskInternals VMFS recovery tool. I've tried to convert with WinImage, but no luck there either. I'll make copies of the file and try each of the programs you recommended. Thanks, I maybe in touch via skype soon.

+1 to StarWind V2V converter, it should help as described.
