Outlook 16 Stationery and Fonts

Dear all,

we have Problems saving the Stationary Entries for Outlook 2016 on Windows 10 1703:

These settings are stored here - (from our UEM Config):

[IncludeRegistryTrees]

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings

but UEM is not able to save them correctly - is there a limitation from UEM about REG_BINARY files, these entries are in this format and pretty long.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you for the additional info.

I just did a quick test with the correct registry settings you provided, and they roam correctly across sessions with a simple [IncludeRegistryTrees] – I didn't really expect otherwise, but just wanted to make sure 🙂

The only way where another UEM setting might interfere with this is if it were to explicitly remove registry settings, but just to rule that out, could you test this in a smaller setup, with just an "OutlookTest.INI" containing only

[IncludeRegistryTrees]

HKCU\Software\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings

just to make sure?

Hi SchwarzC,

UEM should not have any issues exporting those REG_BINARY values, regardless of their size.

You say that "UEM is not able to save them correctly", but is that based on the fact that the Personal Stationery settings in Outlook don't look correctly the next time you log on, or do you actually see errors occur?

Can you provide a FlexEngine log file at log level DEBUG? And maybe a profile archive (or just the .REG content), together with a "manual" export (using regedit.exe) of HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings?

Exactly the settings select by the user are not correct the next time you login - there is no visible error.

Maybe this is a long shot but we found out that if you change the keyboard layout it would automatically fall back to the wrong font type (i believe it is Times new roman).

We eventually ended up changing the default keyboard layout to US International and it worked then.

Since we are not US based it is not possible to change to that keyboard language - we have UK as default.

Any specific you did? Because we have the UK keyboard set as default and that`s it. Why should this revert the Outlook settings?

Hi SchwarzC,

So, just to double-check, if you log on, and check the registry key without having started Outlook or any other Office application, the two ReplyFont* values are missing?

If you still have the "OutlookTest.INI" and the corresponding user profile archive, can you try importing those settings via

"c:\Program Files\Immidio\Flex Profiles\FlexEngine.exe" -r \\correct\path\to\OutlookTest.zip

After running this command, are the two ReplyFont* values in the registry?

Greetings all.  So I'm a little unclear why this thread is marked as resolved.   In my instance, this certainly isn't the case.

From what I see in my environment is that when fonts are changed in Outloook, the reg settings are exported fine.

When the user logs back in, they are imported fine.

When the user launches Outlook, the reg values that were imported are simply REMOVED which results in the font/stationary not being persisted to the user.

So I created a new config with direct flex to bring them back when Outlook is launched but the still get removed.

From where I sit, the UEM is doing what it's supposed to but Outlook is simply deleting what the UEM is persisting upon launch.    Has anyone found a way around this?

For me It only occurs on the first login / initial creation of the Outlook Profile. Outlook overwrites the mailsettings registry key at  first creation of the outlook profile.

After that (If you capture the Outlook Profile Of course) I'm able to control the Stationery Font settings with a partially enforced predefined setting.

Downside of this is that the stationery font settings are applied from the second logon.

I would rather like to see it being applied at the first logon, but i can't get that to work yet. Not even with the stationery font settings included in the OCT neither with spoofing the

first run key.

Just to update the thread....I had initially disabled the out of the box config "Shared Settings" within the "Microsoft Office 2016" section of the DEM because it was prompting users to logon to Office 365 at every new session.   I worked with Support and re-enabled this setting and Outlook fonts and stationary are now persisting.   The support rep, modified this config to keep Office 365 logon prompts at bay.
