orchestrated restart

Dear all

Hi

i know we have a orchestrated restart in vmware but  Default VM Restart Priority what does that means ?

because i think we had to create afew groups and role for restart priority and there we can define priority vm groups  now here what does means Default VM Restart Priority ?

Orchestrated restarts are not the same thing as regular HA restart priority. You don't need to create groups to assign priorities to VMs. Whatever priority is assigned to a VM that has failed and must be restarted elsewhere by HA will be taken into consideration. Default restart priority is essentially no priority. All VMs are restarted at the same time (or as resources allow). For more information, I'd recommend you read Duncan's great ebook here.

but what does Default VM Restart Priority that is Medium in cluster setting ?

It means that all VMs are at a Medium level unless you configure them otherwise.

now actually i want to know if change from medium to highest what happen will be do when one of my host has been failed ?

That'll make no difference if you haven't configured any other priority levels for other VMs. If everything is highest, nothing happens differently from if they were all medium.

is that your means if i want   Default VM Restart Priority work correctly when select highest or medium or ... before that had to create vm host group and rule or set highest or medium or ... in vm overrides each of them ?

I suggest to look at the documentation first, or read my blog post on this topic: vSphere 6.5 what’s new - HA - Yellow Bricks

The restart priority determines when the VMs are scheduled for restart by default, you can change that behavior as mentioned in my blog. if all VMs have the same default priority then all of them will be scheduled for restarts at the same time. if you change all from medium to low or medium to high then this will change nothing. the priority is about VM to VM restart priority.

Does anybody know - will Orchestrated Restart work correctly, if all hosts in HA cluster have failed (let's say, due to power outage), and then some of them were restarted?
