Can anyone suggest a PCIE USB3 controller that is compatible with esxi?

I'm relatively new to esxi and this is for personal use, not any kind of production environment. Running esxi 6.5.  The HCL is a bit hard to follow....is it only for chipsets instead of products?

I do not need/want passthrough, i'd like to be able to assign individual USB devices to individual guests instead of passing the entire controller through.  So i'm looking for a controller that is natively supported in ESXI.  Not able to find any cards that explicitly list support.

I would recommend you to contact the hardware vendor for check for supported PCI Cards on the Server.

Inorder to connect a USB disk to a VM, we would have to use the Passthrough Option.

Or You could assign the complete controller to a Virtual Machine.

Support of the PCI device depends on the Server specification.

The 100s of pages long HW compatibility guide does not have the word "USB" in the entire document.
(note the link is to the web archives version since VMware didn't see fit to keep this online).

I'm running a mac hypervisor but it has PCI slots so I can expand. If I choose wisely, and use the force.
