Datastore Browser problems with NFS4.1

Hi,

With support and some patches from the FreeBSD NFS developer Rick M. I got ESXi 6.5u1 to work with a datastore on a FreeBSD NFS4.1 share.

The only thing left, where it is actually not clear why this happen, is that it is not possible to delete folders on the NFS4.1 datastore with the embedded host client v1.24.0 datastore browser.

When trying to delete a empty or not empty folder it fails with several times following vmkernel.log entrees:

Deleting from shell is no problem and does also not create any warnings,... in the vmkernel.log.

Thanks

If the VMs on the Datastore are working fine, and as you said you can delete the files from shell.. this could be complicated..

I dont think NAS form a FreeBSD is a supported configuration . check if you  can browse the datastore and delete the files by connecting to the host directly.. and not through vCenter

Hi and sorry for my late reply.

Yes I know it is actually not supported, but we are trying to get it running and close all open items and hopefully it will be a supported configuration in the future.

The problem accourse in datastore browser of the integrated host client on the host. I actually don't have a VCenter in this testsystem.

From shell it is no problem, I can browse the datastore, add, delete filese,...

Only in the datastorebrowser deletion of folders is not possible and trows this errors in the vmkernel.log

Looks like its something others are facing too..

doesn't seem to be related to unsupported config.. may be there are issues with NFS4 and datastore browser..

don't see any KBs from vmware out there..

may be they are aware and will be address in the future update.. do keep an eye on

NFS 4.1 on ESXi 6.5: unable to browse datastore
