black screen after snapshot of Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi,

installing Windows Server 2012 R2 works fine with VMware Workstation 10.0.1 build-1379776 installed. After installing the server I installed up to date VMware Tools. Server worked fine for some reboots.

After I created a snapshot, it won´t come up. At starting it shortly shows the Windows sign and after this only a black screen. Seems to me as if Windows doesn´t even completely start, since I can´t connect through RDP nor telnet to the server for port 3389 reacts. I thought this is odd and I probably had a Problem with my host, so I created a new Windows Server 2012 R2 VM. After creating a snapshot it shows the exact same behaviour. Before creating a snapshot everything works fine.

Has anyone an idea how to solve this? Is it a known issue?

Kind regards

Martin

Are you creating the Snapshot with the VM properly shutdown and not suspended, or while the guest OS is running?  Whichever, try the opposite and see if the results are the same.

I tried creating a Snapshot with the VM while the guest OS is running. Still, after restarting the server it won´t come up. It Shows two error Screens as shown in the screenshots appended.error_on_start_of_server05.jpgerror2_on_start_of_server05.jpg

After selecting Continue, the server restarts and goes back to the first error Screen.

Follow below steps :-

1. Go to troubleshooting option >>> open cmd prompt >>> Type cmd - SConfig  >> Enter >> check if any option to get GUI. >> try that option.

2. If no option with GUI >>> exit then try below cmd...

    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /all /featurename:NetFx4
    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /all /featurename:MicrosoftWindowsPowerShell

powershell        (It should show PS , if not reboot server once and then see powershell  - PS)

    Install-WindowsFeature Server-Gui-Shell, Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra

Shutdown -r     (for reboot server)  >> after reboot server will come back  Smiley Happy
