This post provides the step by step instructions on how to import the Spectre and Meltdown Custom Dashboards kit in vRealize Operations 6.6.x Advance/Enterprise Edition.

Here are the steps to import these dashboards:

  2. Login to vRealize Operations with an account which has privelleges to import dashboards & views

  3. Click on Dashboards Menu on the top of the page.

  4. Click on the Views option on the left menu.

  5. Click on the "gear shaped" icon and click on Import. Select the Overwrite radio button.

  6. Browse and import the file name "Views_to_be_imported.zip".

  7. Once completed, click on Ok.

  8. Now click on the Dashboards Menu again on the top of the page.

  9. Click on Action and click on Manage Dashboards.

Where is the original blog post?  Is it possible to show more detail steps on using standard edition?

Here is the original blogpost - http://blogs.vmware.com/management/2018/01/assess-performan…erations-manager.html

These dashboards can only be imported in vROps Advanced or Enterprise edition. For standard edition use the out of the box dashboards mentioned in the blog post.

Please import the views in the import views section and not the import dashboard section. Please refer to the original post for instructions.

You can update the views by editing them and add the filetrs based on your environment. The sample templates come with examples which you can modify based on your environmental needs.

You would need to be at vRealize operation 6.6.0 or vRealize Operations 6.6.1.

You can refer to the upgrade guide which can help you get to the latest version - https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/vsphere/vmware-vrealize-o...

You can modify those Views easily and add the trend and forecast to each of those metrics. You can also setup the duration for the forecast in number of days. To see an example, check the configuration of Out of the box dashboard named - Capacity Overview as it used the forecast capabilities.

hope this helps!!

If the dashboard is not loading at all, then try to clear the browser cache and re-open a new session.

If you still have issues, I have uplaoded an optimized version of this dashboard in the original thread, download that and use it. It should help.

I have made some changes in that dashboard and updated the dashboards_to_be_imported file. You can download and overwrite with this updated version if you still see issues.

Hi Sunny,

thank you for improving the Dashboard. It works way better now, I can actually get valuable data from it (I was too experiencing the blank views as some other user complained about). Usability is much better, and intensive CPU utilization seems to be less evident (vROPs CPU goes to 100% but for way shorter periods of time).

One more thing though (in the context of providing feedback for improvements): in the Idle VMs view the Sum on the % of Idle CPU doesn't make a lot of sense.

Perhaps it'd be better to replace it with an average? Or maybe provide the same data as the High CPU view? Just my 2 cents...

Hello,

Firstly thank you for the great work!

However, on the dashboards I can see that ESXi version 6.5.0-7526125  is listed on "ESXi than have not been patched"

This is the latest version of ESXi which should include meltdown patches.

is this a bug in the dashboard, or am I missing something?

Thank you.

Hi gjergji,

The filter on the views need to be updated for the current patches that have been released. I personally found that the build numbers for 5.5 needed to be updated to match the patches released on 1/22/18. The vcenter appliance views might also need some help depending on if you are windows, appliance, upgrade or fresh install.

Thanks,

I see my vCSA 6.5U1f is listed as it must be patched. I fixed it by editing the "M+S Bug: VM Appliances (Below Minimum)" view and added another filter to "4.data - filter" criteria (6.5.0-7801515):

pastedImage_1.png

That made my vCenter disappear in the "CPU Bug: vSphere Patching" Dashboard, with "vCenter Server Appliances to be patched" dashboard view.

Just thought I'd add it to the discussion.
