VMware-Player 12.5.9 and linux 4.13

I had no problem using Vmware Player 12.5.9 until I have to update to the kernel 4.13 (because of Spectre and Meltdown). Since then, VMware fails to compile some modules. (Virtual Network Device). Is there any update of VMware for this new kernel ? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem.

My configuration :

  • Host Ubuntu 16.04  Linux xxxxxx 4.13.0-31-generic #34~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 19 17:11:01 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux with 16 GiB RAM
  • VMware Workstation 12 Player, version 12.5.9 build-7535481
  • When I launch VMplayer to run my VM Windows 7, I obtain these messages and the player closes. Attached vmware.log

I suspect that these problems have something to do with the patch against the Spectre and Meltdown bugs. Still no answer from vmware. No update, absolutely  nothing, nada. That dissuades from buying their products !

Finally, I replaced vmplayer 12 by vmplayer 14 and now it is working.

Thanks to vmware to their absolute non-assistance.
