Cannot complete due login due to an incorrect username or password

Hi

I am pretty new at esxi and vsphere, I have just installed esxi 5.0 on one of my server, when trying to login via ssh or vsphere it just keeps giving me error.

I have enabled ssh.

Time and date are good as well.

Can anyone help please.

Juan

Are you using the correct keyboard layout? Sometimes if you use special characters such as @ ! % etc they can change positions on the keyboard depending on whether you have an american keyboard or uk layout etc

you mentioned you have vsphere installed, if you are using administrator@vsphere.local for instance to log in to vsphere, this cannot be used to log in directly to the host, and you must use root

Have you somehow configured lockdown mode without realising? From the DCUI, press F2 then go to lockdown settings. If in lockdown mode, this will stop anyone from authenticating remotely apart from vpxuser

lockdown mode is frozen for some reason.

What do you mean frozen? If you're unable to do it from the DCUI, you can try from the vSphere web client. Browse to the host -> Manage tab -> Settings tab -> Security profile, scroll to near the bottom and check the status of Lockdown mode

Two general questions:

- what is a build number you installed?

- why did you install so old ESXi version which is not supported anymore?

This could possibly be due to Lockdown mode being on then. Try to go through the vSphere client as i posted before

Now I have different issue I am unable to login via KVM console which is directly connected to the server say password is incorrect, where as I can login via ilo with the same details.

I have VMware Vsphere client installed on my pc is the web client same or do I need to download this web client ?

Thanks a lot for your help

The 'thick'/desktop client should be fine. The web browser is the only option for 6.5 and above so you should be fine

if you did want to check out the web client, all you have to do is browse to https://"vcenter ip or fqdn"/vsphere-client

Hi sorry, just realised how old the version of vCenter you're running. I'm not sure if you would even be able to access the interface through the web client. Use the thick client and you should be able to achieve the same result
