Cannot hit OK to add HDD to a VM

Good Morning -

I'm running VCSA Version 6.5.0.13000 Build 7515524 with an embedded PSC. It was working beautifully for a while, then I had to bounce a host (which had the VCSA on it) due to a PSOD. I brought everything back up, and now the only problem I have is I cannot add a HDD to a running (or powered off) VM. It's strange. I'm full administrator on it, and even tried with the SSO admin account. My Jr Sysadmin can add HDDs just fine.

My thought is I'm ghosted somewhere and I need to be logged out from a hung session? I restarted the VCSA, my computer, tried different browsers, tried from the HTML5 version too, and tried from another server; same deal. This is specifically what's happening:

  1. I right click a VM and go to Edit Settings.
  2. Scroll down, add a new disk.
  3. Hit OK

And it just hangs there doing nothing. It's like it doesn't receive my input. I can add a new NIC, that seems to work. Any ideas? I can't find anything online for this either. It's strange.

Thanks,

Ward

can you add disk when logged as administrator@vsphere.local (default SSO admin)?

I cannot. I created another SSO account, and it was the same thing. I think it's something with DRS... I hit OK and then sat there watching it for about 60 seconds and it finally popped up and allowed me to create a disk.

Do you have that issue with some VM's or maybe with VM's hosted on that host that experienced PSOD? Did you try to add disk from host UI? Did you try to restart VC or VC services?

I can add to VMs that are outside of the cluster that this VC is in. I manage a few DCs from this, and I can add HDDs to VMs in the other DCS; just nothing in this one in a timely manner. No, I didn't try from the host UI. And yes, I restarted the VC.

I don't think it is necessary to share screens shots. I am adding disks like normal. The OK button does not trigger. I am going to just figure this out by myself.

I'm having the same issue. Have you found a way to resolve this?

Hi,

In order to share the next steps, can you confirm the below details.

  1. Is the issue specific to any Virtual Machine?
  2. Is the behavior same when tried from VMware Host Client ?
  3. Have you tried to restart the management agents and see if that helps ?
  4. How many disks are present on the Virtual Machine ?

  1. Is the issue specific to any Virtual Machine? No
  2. Is the behavior same when tried from VMware Host Client ? yes
  3. Have you tried to restart the management agents and see if that helps ? Yes, but it keeps happening so restarting services is a short fix.
  4. How many disks are present on the Virtual Machine ? 3 disk

It just started working again randomly. Not sure why. But it was annoying.

All,

I found that i have the same issue. In my case its to do with Storage DRS for some reason  the DRS recommendation screen doesn't come up straight away when you hit the OK option. I found that if you hit okay about 10 times it then goes through to the DRS recommendations screen and when you hit apply the Web client crashes and needs to be reset. I have found it works fine with powercli.
