Update Manager: Cannot download software packages from patch source

Hi,

I have been using Update Manager for a long time to patch and upgrade my ESXi-hosts, I have never had problems with this. But now this is not working anymore, I do as follows:

  • Put the host in maintenance mode
  • Run Scan for Updates from the Update Manager-tab i vCenter, this result as normal with a number of missing patches that I want to install
  • The I run the Stage patches and choose the baseline. BUT after a while this step now fails with the error "Cannot download software packagesfrom patch source."

How can I debug this?

Best regards,

Thor-Egil

Did you already check the Update Manager log file, to see whether it contains useful hints?

Hi,

I have tried to find relevant logs, but do you know which files I should look for?

In case Update Manager runs on a Windows host, see https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003693

You may also want to check whether the packages (especially 3rd party vibs) in the baseline are still available for download.

With a similar problem, I was helped to reset the database under https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2147284

This problem occurred when you recall patches.

good idea.  one example - HP splitting into HP & HPE, then HPE buying Nimble are all things that could change VIB download source URLs
