About a month ago I instaled the Vmware Remote Console on my Linux laptop running Fedora 27 x64. Everything worked fine up until a few days ago after a >500MB update to Fedora and Firefox Quantum. Now, when I try to launch the console from any VM's page in Firefox, I get a message:
The address wasn’t understood
Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (vmrc) isn’t associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
You might need to install other software to open this address.
I've tried uninstallig and reinstalling vmrc a couple of times, and vmrc is never properly registered within Firefox. How can I fix this? I'm using version 10.0.2 of the Linux console.
I worked around this issue by installing Chromium from the Fedora repository. Chromium works fine with the HTML5 client and the remote console, but I'd still like to get Firefox working if anyone has any idea how to manually re-associate the console link in ESXi with vmrc.
Hi,
Are you on FireFox Quantum 59 or still on 58?
Can you try to change the vmrc: prefix in the url into web+vmrc: or even ext+vmrc: and see if that helps?

Still on Firefox 57. I see the repo has 58 available, but I won't be able to upgrade until later today.
I tried going up to the address bar and changing the URL to "web+vmrc" and "ext+vmrc", but Firefox just executes a web search when I attempt to load the modified URL.
Hi,
Ok, from what I understood by reading the hacker news response, this feature only lands in Quantum 59, so I guess it will take a bit longer.
