VMware pro 14 installation error on windows 10 64bit

I just purchased and downloaded the 12 to 14 pro upgrade. Even running the downloaded upgrade as administrator I get the following error below. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Would you please help to collect some log files about that?

1) Try to re-install Workstation14 until hit such error message

2) Please check the vmx86 service status by execute "sc query vmx86" in the cmd and paste the result.

3) Open %programdata%\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini, add these two line:

vmauthd.log.info = "TRUE"
vmauthd.log.fileName = "c:\logs\vmauthd.log"

4) Click "Retry" on that error message and check that if there is log files in "c:\logs\vmauthd.log"

5) Please attach the c:\logs\vmauthd.log, thanks very much for your support

Does it make a difference if you run the install program as a system administrator?

no, it has same problem under admin account.

I removed old registry entries under regedit and it came up. I can load vms but now the first vmnet is disable by default for some reason. I get the little popup on the bottom right as the VM is starting that the 1st interface will start disabled for some reason. How do I change this?

the 14 upgrade completely broke and destroyed a clean solid set of 12 setups.

If you are in the middle of project using 12 don't touch 14.

I am experiencing this same issue. Was there ever a resolution for this?

Thanks in advance!

mfelker most likely meant to run the installer by right-clicking it and then select "Run as administrator". This is not the same like when using an account of type Administrator.
