Kernel Panic - restart; Freezing since Fusion update to 10.1.1

Since the update to 10.1.1 - at least 3 times a day, my Mac will freeze (and not come out of it without a hard reboot), or will get a kernel panic causing the system to reboot. Granted, Apple just had an update and so ran everything yesterday, all day, without running Fusion and did not run into any issues. On the freeze, sometime it happens when waking up, sometimes I will be working on something on the computer, step away for 15 to 20 mins (without it going to sleep), start to work on something...freezes, gives me the ball - and sometimes it looks like it starts to shutdown (programs start closing in the background) and then it hangs. 2 hours later. Still hanging.

So - at the moment, it appears to be something going on with Fusion that causes the freeze or sometimes the kernel panic (I step away for lunch or dinner and come back to a rebooted system). I currently have the following:

Fusion 10.1.1

Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2014)

Running High Sierra, 10.13.2 (17C205)

2.5 GHz, Intel Core i7

16GB memory, 1600 MHz DDR3

So my most recent step is to open up Compatibility in Fusion and step down the hardware version to 12 (as I was having the same issue with freeze and reboot, but maybe once every other day at 10.0.1). Will see what happens here. If that doesn't work, plan to run in Unity mode and see how that fares.

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue since Fusion update to 10.1.1

Thanks

Richard

Hi MBPJHawk ,

Which virtual machine was running when you hit this kernel panic? Did you install any special applications in the VM?

I'm currently running Win10 on the VM. Now a little over a month ago? there was the Win10 Creators Update which broke the ability to save files due to the way MS changed how files were being saved. However, vmware updated the tools later and that took care of the issue.

Then within the past week we had Apple provide the 10.13.2 Supplemental update due to a security issue with the Fusion 10.1.1 update right on its heels. Since that point in time, I ran into issues with everything freezing (had to do a hard reboot), not waking up (had to do a hard reboot), or stepping away for an hour or more and return to a sign in screen due to a kernel panic and reboot.

Got to the point in the last few days that I really could not get anything done.

Today I bit the bullet and backed everything up and reinstalled HighSierra. Next step will be a fresh install of everything (*shudders*).
