Dear All,
I am currently using vsphere essential plus kit with 5.5 U2, I need to know if I want to have vsphere enterprise, what are the options:
- Upgrade path is available
OR
- Need to purchase vsphere enterprise license as fresh license
regards,
Wajeeh
so, if I have essential plus I can get free upgrade to newer version of essential plus, but can not go to vsphere standard or enterprise plus (which is a product upgrade change of product)
If you have active SnS contract you can open cases with VMware Technical support, download software from vmare's site and upgrade your license keys (for example from vsphere 5 to vsphere 6 version). You have to pay additional money to make an upgtade between editions (for exapmle from standard to ent+ edition). That's correct.
However if you SnS contract expired you lose all this options. To renew your SnS contract you have to pay penalty for a number of months when your contract wasn't active.
To make an upgrade between editions you have to have active SnS contract and pay for an upgrade.
Sometimes it's cheaper just to buy new license keys and not to pay penalty to renew SnS contract + amount of money for an upgrade.
Hi!
You can't buy vsphere enterprise license anymore. You can buy vsphere standard or enteprise plus license.
There is any upgrade from essential plus kit?
You can buy upgrade from essentialse kit if you have valide Support and Subscription (SnS) contract. And this will be upgrade to standard or ent+ license.
If you don't have valide SnS contract then I guess it will be eaiser and cheaper for you to buy new licenses.
thank you for help, I found something for SnS
VMware offers Support and Subscription (SnS) contracts with software license purchases. If you choose to purchase a SnS contract with your product, you receive new version upgrades of that product free under the Subscription component of SnS. This free offer continues until the contract expires, unless you renew the contract.
so, if I have essential plus I can get free upgrade to newer version of essential plus, but can not go to vsphere standard or enterprise plus (which is a product upgrade change of product)
correct me if I understood wrong

You should also keep in mind that with licenses you must buy support for 1 year as minimum.
