Dears, kindly we need to know the amount of the transferred data " send & received " between two vm server ?
ESXI 5.1
IBM Blade HX5
Can you be more specific? This is a very broad question to attempt to answer.
ok, we have 9 ibm blade server HX5 and esxi 5.1 is installed on each one so we have 9 hosts in our vcenter and each host have vms servers with redhat OS and windows server, we need the way to know the amount send and received data between any two servers ? is their any third-party software or vcenter monitor or monitor tools or any solution to determined two IP to know the transferred data between them
thanks
There are several way's to monitoring the traffic. You can do that by setting up SNMP on the physical switches. We use PRTG for that.
Yes, vRNI can do that, but you need to upgrade your vSphere to use it.
Have you tried wireshark?
thanks dgreebe, for your replay but how i do that? i don't know where is the physical switch it is IBM chassis with 9 blade server so IBM chassis have internal 6 switch module , so kindly we needs more clarification about your solution by snmp.
thanks daphnissov , we used esxi 5.1 ,is there's specific version of vsphere we should install ?
thanks deepak88, no i didn't , i will search in this solution
If you're on 5.1, then you *really* need to upgrade anyhow because 5.1 was out of support in August of 2016. At a minimum you should be on 5.5.
thanks i will make upgrade plan to to that
deepak88unfortunately wire-shark not working
for SNMP-usage on the physical switches its important that you can "access" them or configure them by the network administrator.
I am that same person on my company so I had no problems with that...
without access to the physical switches, you can eventhough use PRTG. You can "add" vCenter to PRTG and then use SNMP Traffic sensor that is there when its a Windows VM, but also Linux. SNMP is broadly used for monitoring-purposes.
You can use PRTG for multiple services. There is a free-version at https://www.paessler.com/prtg
thanks, but i'm already using snmp with OPmanager but there is no option to select two VMs to see send and received and the same scenario in solarwinds
thanks, unfortunately we not have license for vRNI and i trying to get demo or trial version i think this solution is the correct answer
You won't even be able to use a trial version until you upgrade to 5.5.
