PXE boot when using UEFI too slow to be usable

I've always created our base images in VMware workstation.  Now that we're migrating to win10/UEFI/secure boot, I wanted those base images to be created with UEFI enabled.

When doing so, PXE booting slows to a point it's not usable in order to create the image.  I tried changing NIC from e1000e to e1000 and no change.  I have no slowness when creating images with legacy BIOS on same client workstation.

The first part of the PXE boot completes ok (loading boot.sdi), but then it comes to a crawl when loading boot.wim.  I gave up after an hour of waiting.

I found this similar post over the vSphere forum & this old workstation post

We're using symantec/altiris to PXE boot to winPE10.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas or anything I could try.  Thanks!

edit .vmx file and set

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

worked for me. you may also try

ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3"
