Using vCenter virtual machine folders in vROPs 6.1?

Has anyone figured out a way to utilize vCenter virtual machine folders in vROps 6.1.

I am generating reports for right-sizing and have been asked to include the workload/application owner as part of the report.  vCenter already has these workloads organized in folders so I thought it would be a no brainer...my bad 🙂  They do not want to have to manually recreate all the groups in vROP.

When creating the view for the report, the virtual machine does not have any property indicating the relationship to the folder (like parent.cluster, parent.datacenter...).  However, under Content, Inventory Explorer, Virtual Machine Folder, it lists the folders as seen in vCenter, as well as the VMs in the group (see attached screenshot).

Any ideas if this can be done?

Thanks

Ron

Virtual Machine Folders could be selected from a object list widget, and populate a View widget that has the view you want.

VM Folders indeed aren't front n center in the VROPS navigation hierarchy, but the objects and parent child relationships are there to be exploited using dashboards/traversal spec use cases.

If you wanted to use Custom Groups, you can just have them populate dynamically from the VMWARE Folder names, specifically VM, descendants of "Folder Name". Or populate the CG with the VM folder object specifically then have it recursively populate down in to itself (CG). The recursive  population is a handy trick when you'very got objects in the environment with the same name.

When you say 'Virtual Machine Folders could be selected from a object list widget, and populate a View widget that has the view you want."

I assume we use Subject 'Virtual Machine Folder' but what property do you drag over into your report view?
