Write access powerCLI provided by VMware vSphere 6.5 Essentials Kit?

We want to setup small test environments by using powercli api.

The command-lets we intend to use are

- New-VirtualPortGroup

- New-VirtualSwitch

Does VMware vSphere Essentials Kit license provide these api's with write access?

Hi!

Essentials license allow you powercli access in read-only mode. No write access, unfortunately.

Thanks for the quick response.  That's a pitty. Any idea which license does offer write access? Or better, where I can find it? Because I find the whole vmware site a bit vage.

Sorry, seems I'm wrong. Essentials license should be enough to work with PowerCli.

Only free license is limited to read-only mode.

Do you have any problem running commands you mentioned?

Hi,

Well, they did work with an evaluation license, untill I entered free esxi license.

So the commands work, but then I had to figure which license offers me access again.

And the edition compare sheets did not mention any API or SDK.

That made me wonder, if it was separate license or present in all of the above.

But accoording to you, any non-free license will do.

For us that is the essentials edition.

Thanks,

Mark,
