What are the things can we do through User Environment Manager 9.2

I am trying to implement UEM in my organisation for 200 users. I have installed and profiles are exporing and importing properly. but my doubts are

Do we need to install printer drivers in golden image for mapping printers?

Can we migrate Group policies from GPM to UEM?

How can I remove some applications (ex: Windows Fax and Scan, Connect to a Projector etc..)  from programs menu through UEM?

Hi EshMallu,

Do we need to install printer drivers in golden image for mapping printers?

I recommend that you install the printer drivers in the golden image. This reduces the time needed to map the printer, because the printer driver doesn't have to be downloaded. Also make sure the driver on both print server and golden image have the same version, otherwise the printer driver may still be downloaded. You can also choose to map the printers asynchronously to provide swift logon experience for the user.

Can we migrate Group policies from GPM to UEM?

You can manage most user (HKCU) related GPO settings using ADMX-based settings within UEM. Use Manage Templates within UEM to import ADMX templates and validate them. Computer related GPO settings (HKLM) still need to be managed through GPO.

How can I remove some applications (ex: Windows Fax and Scan, Connect to a Projector etc..)  from programs menu through UEM?

I usually start with a clean profile (either local profile or mandatory profile), in which I remove most application shortcuts. I use the Shortcut option (User Environment tab) to create only those shortcuts to applications I want to be present for the user.

Does this answer your question?

Hi friends,

Finally I have managed to implement User Environment Manager in my organization. But still I have couple of issues with UEM. Could anyone go through how I have implemented and let me know if i have done anything wrong.

I have implemented ADMX-based settings for Hide control panel, My computer and Libraries from Desktop (only from desktop)

Folder Redirection for redirect the Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos, Favorites, Roaming AppData and Desktop

Horizon Smart Policies for USB Redirection

Logon Tasks for create shortcuts on Taskbar and Start Menu through vbs scripts(Excel 2013, Outlook 2013, Snipping Tool and Word 2013)

Printer Mappings for Network Printers based on Condition sets

Registry Settings for Keyboard settings and couple of application registry settings.

Shortcuts for desktop shortcuts

Triggered Tasks for display messages at log on time or at the time of screen unlock.

Windows Settings for Hide Drives (A and B drives).

My main issue is drive mappings

Drive Mappings is implemented exactly section drive group policy in GPO

but I can't assign another letter if the specified letter is used.

this is the scenario from group policy

scenario :  User AAA is in two groups (Service desk and Applications)

Drive H used for \\file-group\ContentPolicy folder

H drive is assigned to Service Desk team and infrastructure team

continue.....

Drive H used for \\file-group\ExtraPolicy folder

H drive assigned to Applications Team and HR team

As user AAA is in two groups (Service Desk and Applications), according to group policy first assigned \\file-group\ContentPolicy folder to the user AAA as H drive and \\file-group\ExtraPolicy folder is pick up next available letter (K drive).

In UEM we can skip the letter if letter is in use but can't assign next available letter. How can I manage this scenario through UEM. Can anyone help me in this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi EshMallu,

If you want a drive mapping to be created with any available drive letter, you can use a "net use * \\server\share" command line (without the quotes). You can trigger this command from the Logon Tasks section within the User Environment tab. You can also specify conditions for this task. For instance the condition "File or Folder exists". Depending on your situation you can also specify to run this task asynchronously. Running asynchronously speeds up the logon and creates the mapping a little later. If you run into timing issues with this, you can choose to disable running asynchronously.

So to be clear and give an example, you can choose to.

Run "net use * \\server\share" if the condition matches "File or folder H:\ exists".

Leave the existing drive mapping config in place and select to skip if drive letter is already in use.

Please let me know if this makes it a bit more clear and if this is a possible solution for your issue.

Also good to know that the drive mappings in UEM are processed in alphabetical order. So if you want to have control over which drive mappings should be mapped first of last, play with the naming of the drive mapping configuration in UEM.

As you can see in the screenshot, these drive mappings are processed in the following order from top to bottom.

Home

Marketing

Sales

Software

Thank you very much Van_de_Vis. I have implemented your recommendation in couple of drives and it's working. Still I have to implement with condition sets.

I have another issue with exporting and importing appdata folder through UEM. I have couple of software licenses (ex:TOAD) in appdata folder, so I need to export and import the appdata folder through UEM. Can you please help me to resolve this issue?

I have used synctool for sync the local path to UEM profile configuration path but it's not working. Is there any way to write some script (logoff and logon) to export and import?

Hi Vkmr,

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't find TOAD licence key in registry.

Actually TOAD license key will store in appdata\local\{08439167-4CA5-48E9-A810-A3A7C0B80B06} folder.

I want to export Appdata folder to UEMprofile folder and import while log in the user.

Could you please let me know how can i do the export and import appdata folder?

I don't recommend to export/import the complete appdata folder. Instead, export/import only those parts of the profile (sub folders and files) and registry to have swift logons/logoffs.

Have a look at the following thread: Re: Methods to Capture Registry and Profile Changes to capture specific settings.

Hi Ian,

I have implemented individually as you and vrmk recommended and it's all working fine.

Now I am working on App volumes.

I have installed App volume Manager in New server and installed agent in my golden image but somehow Connection Error  (Manager server name error code 404): Unable to contact App Volumes Manager.

Virtualization is disabled

Hi EshMallu,

Although there are quite a few people who use both UEM and App Volumes, please ask your App Volumes questions in the appropriate forum. Thanks!
