VMware player 14 does not start on Ubuntu 17.10

I just installed Ubuntu 17.10 Linux and VMware Player 14 prompts me with:

"Before you can run VMWare, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel."

I click "Install", enter my password, and the program immediately exits.  Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

You did not provide enough information on the error. What version of GNU C Compiler (gcc) was not found? This should also be part of the error message. This maybe the reason why VMware Player 14 is failing to launch. Whenyou try running the  gcc --version command, what version did it display? I am suspecting that the version of gcc is missing from the Ubuntu 17.10 host. If possible, ensure that the proper gcc version is installed in the Ubuntu host. Lots of information in the Ubuntu website for this.

I have the same problem. I try to install VMware Player on Ubuntu 17.10, but the installer exit with no error message after i accept the EULA. Same happens with VMware remote console. This is an absolute frsh/stock Ubuntu 17.10 install.
