iSCSI (1 Gbps) on VDI

Hi All,

We are designing VDI Pool for 50 users. After assessments we found that approx 3500 IOPS are required at the backend.

We have existing storage VNX5200 which has sufficient space.

Storage engineer suggest this IOPS can be easily achieved, He is concern about the iSCSI throughput. iSCSI based on 1 Gbps throughput

But 1 Gbps link is not at all utilized, hardly 10%.

Requesting your suggestion/comments on the above approach.

The actual bandwidth will the data churn rate which is unique to every environment. You know your IOPS, that is a good start. Now your going to need to consider factors such as new VM provisioning IOPS during the day if it is a linked clone pool to applications on the VM that are adding/removing data. Just take it step by step, evaluate anything that will be using the iSCSI storage and then come up with an average.
