vSAN storage sizing and expected IOPS

Hi,

pastedImage_0.png

can any one pl confirm if the calculation is ok to derive the net usable storage for the above vSAN node.

total raw vSAN cluster storage - 4* 9.6 TB = 38.4 TB

total space after FTT is 1 = 38.4/2 = 19.2

disk format overhead 2 % on Raw space = 0.768 TB

net usable storage space available = (19.2 - 0.768) TB.

is this correct calculation ?

second question - how much IOPS i can get with the above vSAN cluster? where can i fine this info ?

regards,

There's a number of elements that you also need to take into consideration.

For example slack space, VMware recommends 30%

If you're familiar with  the profile of the workflow that will be placed on the vSAN cluster I would take a look at the following.

https://virtualsansizing.vmware.com/

This will give you an idea of the IOPS required for your workflow and the ready node configuration to satisfy it.

Also if you haven't all ready there is some very useful information in the Design and Sizing guides below

i used to refer to the best practice document and broreg's answer is the best one by now.
