Patch name : ESXi600-20176001.zip
Dear Friends,
I was patched my esxi 6.0 with above mentioned patch and my esxi host lost its shared storage after reboot. At that moment it was showing me newer built number.
but when i rebooted once again and it start showing me the older built number.
so now when i check the installed vibs. it shows me the newer one tools-light 6.0.0-3.66.5485776 but main build number of esxi hosts are still the old ones.
using sas controller P440ar.
any one is having similar kind of behavior or any information why storage lost ?
Is that tools-light is a security patch so i can consider that i am good and now no need to re-do.
Regards
Hello
Check the below KB and see if it helps
ESXi patching fails when /var/tmp/cache partition is corrupt (1020283) | VMware KB
What build number of 6.0 are you currently running? I've run into issues before where storage disappears from a host when running ESXi 6.0 GA.
ESXi is currently having (ESXI 6.0.0,4192238 )
vcenter 6.0.0,2559268
the scratch partition looks fine on the host because host showed me all the VIBs without errors.
Any suggestions
Are you able to update your vCenter Server to a version equal to or greater than your ESXi host? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, the ESXi host cannot be a newer version than the vCenter Server.
What was the version, build number before update ? Can you upload esxupdate.log file from host ?
before update was having a same version ESXi, 4192238.
after reboot , i lost the shared storage and then reboot again and esxi rollback-ed to previous build number.
what Procedure have you followed for the patch installation? Update Manager or commandline,
Step BY step Commands:
Assuming you have uploaded the patch bundle on the host local datastore, further steps are listed below:
vim-cmd hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter
esxcli software vib update -d "Path of the Patch bundle in local VMFS Volume"
Yes, i did the same,
patches runs successfully but then shared storage was gone.
HBA H241 and driver is 5.5.0.106
Is issue with one host or some other host as well. If this is with one host then suggest you please reinstall OS.
Upgrade the latest Firmware, BIOS, iLO from iso provided by OEM Like HP, DELL. If the host is HP just mount the iso and boot from CD it will give you option for automatic installation.
I am thinking to dont touch the current ESXI installation on server so i will buy new USB and try to install esxi and boot from new USB. so with this way - i think i will have an option of fast rollback.
anyone see any problem with it?
Anyhow it will destroy previous installation when you try to boot from USB, its still the same thing same as to installing a new ESXi. Refer below article you can anytime revert back the ESXi to previous version:
