could be the hp purple screen with g7?

this was caused by the hpe-smx-provider

I'm afraid that 460 Gen 7 is not supported with ESXi 6.5 and later

I would recommend to go with ESXI 6.0 unless you have any specific requirement of ESXI 6.5 as there's ongoing PSOD issue with HP G7> servers with ESXI 6.5 U1. Once it's resolved then later you can upgrade it.

Update manager still shows 6.5 Update 1 needed even though host is running 6.5 U1 installed from HPE...

Looking at the list of supported servers for ESXi6.5 your server is not on the list of supported devices.

Unfortunately this is a question to take up with HPe as the the support status as it is their responsibility to provide compliance.

IT may work, but you will not be in a supported position.  this may be acceptable for Test and Dev or even staging or QA but I would not want to go in to production in this state
