How to Reduce VM disk space

Hello guys.. I am stuck in a problem. I want to reduce the disk space that i assigned to my VM like when i created it... i assigned it 42GB but now i want to reduce it to 30 GB. Tell me the procedure step by step.

P.S I am using VMware workstation 12..

From VMware Workstation 9.x (Windows) and later, shrinking is automatically done while cleaning up the disk. Go to VM > Manage > Clean up Disks.  This is not available in Linux version of VMware Workstation 9.x and later.

If you have Linux host running VMware Workstation, then you will have to use sudo vmware-toolbox-cmd 'disk' shrinkonly
