VXLAN Packet Capture on Wire

Hi,

I have few queries in mind but VXLAN Packet encapsulation and decapsulation.

Is anybody has capture the the packet on vtep level or ESX level to see the packet flow.

it will be highly appropriated if somebody share the packet capture or pcap file.

Regards

Amol

Can you let me know what is your query on encapsulated packet part ? Below snippet is a ARP query (172.16.1.32 and 33 are source and destination vtep) and within the ARP packet Sender IP will be populated . Other than VXLAN header rest all are general Ethernet packet fields.

Hi Sree,

     Thanks for your quick reply.

I am looking for end to end VXLAN packet capture. VM1 is on VXLAN 5000 wants to communicate to VM2 on VXLAN 5001 "both VMs are on different ESX Hosts"

is it possible to capture the end to end packet from VM1 -> DLR Gateway -> vtep1 -> vtep2 -> VM2

I understand that. But you will not see anything different in those packet . VXLAN header will be added/removed at VTEP level - Rest all will be a normal Ethernet packet structure. You should read VXLAN Series – How VTEP Learns and Creates Forwarding Table – Part 5 - VMware vSphere Blog .
