Same Physical Device always gets same virtual desktop

Hello Folks,

I am researching a solution wherein the same physical device always receives the same virtual desktop. Some of you may say you can use Kiosk mode and use a customer or dummy user but that will not work in my scenario I need the user to login to the virtual desktop using their unique domain credentials. Any advice would be appreciated. This is to solve a specific use case for an application which I am hoping to solve from the application side and not have to do this at all but if it comes down to it I would like to be prepared. Thanks in advance for your collective brain power.

EDIT:

We will be using the latest and greatest version of View.

The OS will be Win7 64bit

The physical device will be a PC not a thin client

I hope to employ instant clones.

Josh

Oh I see! This is a hard cookie, Maybe this can help!!! The only thing that I can think of right now is Dedicated-assignment pools or Horizon 7 View Agent Direct-Connection or combined. Each user is assigned a particular View desktop and returns to the same virtual desktop at each login. Users can personalize their desktops, install applications, and store data. The virtual desktop is not deleted and re-created after each use. View Agent Direct-Connection (VADC) Plug-In is installed on machines where View Agent is already installed. By using this plugin, an end user can connect directly to a virtual desktop using PCoIP, RDP or Blast Extreme without going through a View Connection server. That’s it! You can now start any View Client and specify the name or IP address of this Horizon View desktop.

Do you mean the same virtual machine/name or the same user's profile settings on the same virtual desktop for a specific physical machine?

I'm just curious, what would be the purpose of doing this? If you don't mind!

I mean the same physical device AKA PC-ABC always connects to the same virtual machine VM-123 regardless of the user that logs in.

It has to do with an application that wants to pair with a physical phone. The application is only "aware" enough to know the name of the device connected to it and to then redirect the calls the paired physical phone. So I want to map Client Machine -> virtual machine -> physical phone.

Since it is a multi-use call center the physical device has not access to the application it only has access the the vmware view environment/desktops.

See my conundrum?

Nice try! but dedicated assignments in a 3 shift call center = three times the licensing costs. I don't think that is an acceptable answer to the client.

EDIT - not sure how pricing works with the direct agent?

Also it seems that this would require assigned seating and a lot of user maintenance with turnover in a call center. I need any user to sit down at any physical device and always have the device paired with the phone next to it.

Oh Ok! Let me think in something else or lets see if someone come out with any other idea. Did you look around for a 3rd party solution, maybe there is other people looking for the same project.

Raul,

After reviewing the direct connection agent more closely I think this will do the job as I can pre-install a reg key on the physical device so that the end user gets the same virtual desktop each and every time and by setting auto-connect they should not be able to mess it up.

thanks,

Josh
