VCOPS to VROPS migration

Can we retain the existing data in VCOPS 5.8.4 and use it in VROPs 6.4?

Meaning we migrate the data from 5.8.4 to 6.4?

Also can we do this if from 6.0 VROPs to 6.5/6.6?

Hello,

The upgrade from earlier version can be done directly and in one step. Only upgrade from 6.0 and 6.1 should be done in 2 Steps. First upgrade to 6.2, 6.3 or 6.4 and than to 6.6.

Data will remain intact in this way.

The upgrade path from vCOPS 5.8.x to vROPS 6.x is deploying an new vROPS instance and importing the data from the vCOPS instance.

If you already are using vROPS 6.x it basically is an in-place upgrade. The steps involved depend on the source source and destination version. You can use the VMware Product Interoperability Matrices to check for the correct upgrade path.

We did this and the migration took for ever and failed. If you have a lot of data it will take a wile. We ended up deploying a new 6.0 (at the time) and ran them in parallel for about 3 months then just shut down the 5.x and deleted it.

I would recommend doing this with 6.6 as there are a couple of big upgrades that will take time (database changes) on your path to 6.6 and it will be cleaner. I am not sure if this is a valid option for you.

I think you need to open a case to get those bits.

So, when you say vCOPS 5.8.x to vROPS 6.x, this means that any version of 6.x is support to import data from 5.8.x directly? Can I use a 6.6.1, for example to import data?

No, you must first go to 6.0. 6.6 doesn't have the ability to migrate from 5.8.

Ok, but 6.0 to 6.2 was retired by VMware. Only way to obtain 6.0 is with VMware Support? Why this versions was unsupported?

Because VMware does not support every version of software perpetually. 6.2 is the current cutoff mark now that 6.7 is available (with 7.0 soon to land). You'll need to get bits from GSS most likely which involves opening an SR.

I refers "unsupported" as a term that HCL refers the version 6.0.x and because was retired from the download area. I know that the product is in EoL about VMware Support, but why the version 6.0.x was retired is the question that I don´t know why.

Because products that are EoL and unsupported are not offered for download any longer. At this point, vCOps 5.8 is an antique and most customers have long since moved off it. If you are still left behind then you'll need to contact GSS. There's really not another option that I know of.
